CUBE: Manipulation

Silk Screen, 11 works, 72 x 51 cm each, 35 x 35cm, edition of 4

This project explores various imaginary structures and their occupation of space. These structures all have one common departure; the cube. This interest in the cube as a form started out due to the recognition of it being the only regular hexahedron, thus making it somewhat special in comparison to other forms. It is also the basis for many man-made forms through some degree of manipulation.

This form is explored in multiple ways, leading to different expressions of how these structures can exist, many times manipulated into becoming something else. This has been done mostly through observations and manipulations of architectural forms and 3D primitive shapes. A constant interest in repetition is manifested both in the choice of printmaking medium, as well as in the subject of representation. This also stemmed an interest in how the cube can be changed to create alternate forms, and to study the space they would occupy.

This body of work continuously explores how the cube can be manipulated into other forms, while also exploring how these forms can look from different viewing points. This allowed for approaching these cuboidal forms from different angles, allowing them to exist in an illusion of depth on a flat surface.
