Exploring Chance
Pen on paper drawn by robots, 100 x 70cm each
In my work, I seek to explore chance in mark making and composition. I try to distance myself from the works, in order to decrease my control on the final outcome. The approach taken is one similar to a scientific experiment, that of having controlled specific criteria set beforehand. This reduces the human bias from these chance experiments. By building automated mechanisms which move and draw in an aleatoric manner, the end result is always a different one. This is done by building mechanisms which are not efficient, thus resulting in a different outcome each time. The result is always the mechanism’s trail which it has formed on its own.
